Q. I want to train to be a commercial pilot. What courses do you offer for me?
A. At Horizon International Flight Academy you can train and study to get a UAE license. The courses offered include Private Pilot License (PPL), Commercial Pilot License (CPL), Air Transport Pilot License (ATPL) and Flight Instructor Course (FI), as well as training to achieve Instrument and Multi-Engine ratings set for both Helicopter as well as aero plane.

Q. Why is a "JAA syllabus" training program important for me?
A. The JAA has been replaced by the EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) which continues to rely on the regulations issued by the JAA (JAR: Joint aviation regulations) for Operations and for Licensing. The syllabi to get a license are defined in the JAR-FCL. The syllabi provided by Horizon are approved by the GCAA and comply with the JAR-FCL syllabi.

Q. How long does it take to become a pilot?
A. The duration depends on the license one seeks to acquire, the course durations are as follows.

P.P.L – 12 weeks
C.P.L – 47 weeks
A.T.P.L – 68 weeks
(Training weeks excluding holidays)

Q. Horizon is located in Al Ain. Are there advantages for me to train there?
A. The almost daily blue skies of the region assure you of almost all year round guarantee of flying rather than weather dependant scheduling and the light traffic of the dispatching airport give you maximum flight time as there are no delays in waiting to take off, this gives you more time in the air for your flying lessons.

Q. What kind of facilities do you have?
A. Horizon International Flight Academy has over 3100 square meters of training facilities located at the Al Ain International Airport Area; air conditioned classrooms and hangars, a new multimedia library with over 60000 airlines books.

Q. What kind of equipment do you have?
A. Horizon International Flight Academy maintains industry-current equipment to offer hands-on training with a new and well maintained fleet (Bell 206 Jet ranger, R44+ Da42and Cessna 172SP with Gamin 1000 Avionics) and simulators for flight training.

Q. When should I apply for acceptance?
A. Applications for acceptance are reviewed and processed daily. Once a student determines interest in applying for acceptance they should apply immediately. Applicants must complete an interview process with the administration and training departments.

Q. When can I start school?
A. There are several start dates offered throughout the year. Start date should be determined during the interview and application submitted for a pre-determined start date.

Q. What must I have to be accepted?
A. In general students enrolling must be a high school graduate, and pass an English proficiency test administered at Horizon.

Q. Do you accept transfer credits?
A. Horizon does accept transfer credits/flight hours from recognized institutions however evaluation will be carried out to determine placement in the program.

Q. What are the vision, hearing, and general medical health requirements that must be met in order to be a pilot?
A. You must be medically fit to the standards laid out by the General Civil Aviation Authority (G.C.A.A) which are determined by the G.C.A.A. approved medical examiners.

Q. Based on my experience and since I already hold an ATPL, can I convert?
A. No, there is no simple way to convert your current FAA to a JAA license. You must complete the theoretical knowledge course, all the written tests and the JAA flight requirements.

The Horizon International Flight Academy (HIFA) was conceived early in 2002, with the express purpose of offering high standard flight training for military and civilian customers within the Middle East. furthermore it was decided that such an academy would be based in the UAE in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi at the International Airport of Al Ain.
